Participation Policy
Persons planning to ski at Pangaea Puddle must be a USA Water Ski active
member. A portion of the registration fee for any of our clinics, tournaments
or schools goes towards membership in the Pangaea Puddle Club.
If you do not have an individual, collegiate or family membership, we
can provide a temporary guest membership for you (for events that do not
include jumping). If you will be attending any of our multi-day events,
it will be necessary to purchase a regular USA Water Ski membership. This
will enable you to attend other sanctioned events at other locations for
the duration of the year.
Help Us Plan a Great Tournament for You (updated 9/8/05)
(A Note from the Webmaster, Darlene McCormick, posted 9/8/05)
Less than a handful of entries for the Labor Day tournament were received
more than two weeks in advance. Some people called and emailed, which
is great, but not realistic for George or Trish to remember. The entries
did come in heavily during the last week and a half before the tournament.
We request again, please send your entries early next year.
The entries received in advance were reviewed against the officials listed
in the guidebook. Of 12 judges, seven were in Mens 4. This makes it impossible
to consider running the second lake. We strongly encourage some of the
younger competitors and those that have their EP to fill out the necessary
paperwork and become "official" officials. There were nine drivers,
more than we've had in a long time thanks to the clinic last fall. Only
two scorers made it tough for them to have a break.
Because the tournament was sanctioned as a two round, both slalom rounds
were held on the lower lake. With about 45 competitors, it took from 8
a.m. to 6:30 p.m. We had hoped to sanction a third round but it didn't
work out. The plan was to ski a third round of slalom Sunday. Doing so
can result in the retention of more officials.
Tricks and jump were held Sunday, at a relaxed pace as usual.
(A Note from the Webmaster, Darlene McCormick, posted 2004)
If you have skied at a Pangaea tournament before, you have likely witnessed
the level of skier participation that is necessary to make the tournament
a success. This is such a great site, skiers come here hoping to ski three
full rounds, rather than the two that are promised in the guidebook with
the third one being optional or modified.
If more than 40 people attend, both lakes are needed. Overlapping rounds
for 40 or more skiers require about six drivers minimum, four scorers minimum,
and 12 judges minimum, with six at any one time. I've just named 22 officials
minimum. If only that number of people volunteer, the added responsibility
ties them to the tournament for at least half the day making it more difficult
to eat lunch, visit, and take breaks.
Historically, the "unlimited" capacity of these tournaments
has not created a sense of urgency for people to register in advance.
George, being such a nice guy, has not charged late fees. We have debated
how to encourage people to commit early enough that we can create a meaningful
staffing of officials and running order for the upper lake. So we've decided
to just ask, will you please send in your registrations early?
If we know attendance at least one week in advance, planning will be easier,
organization will be improved, and stress levels will be reduced. At a
minimum, we will know whether both lakes and double the officials are
needed.
When you send in your entries to historically full tournaments, please think
of Pangaea at the same time and send your entries.
